In closing on our celebration of 30 years of AmeriCorps, we’d like to highlight an alum in our network who has used her experience and service to make the Granite State a better place. Read about how Danielle Plumlee, Program Director of Lakes Region Conservation Corps found opportunities through service in NH.
Q: Why did you join AmeriCorps?
A: I joined AmeriCorps because of the opportunities it provided, to gain experience in the field I was interested in while supporting a local community and making a difference each day of my service. I had just graduated at the time, and having the ability to join AmeriCorps in a program focused on environmental stewardship allowed me to get first-hand experience in multiple facets of conservation, while gaining skills and confidence in my abilities. To this day I look back on my service terms and have fond memories that will last me a lifetime!
Q: How do you stay connected to national service?
A: I stay connected to national service every day, as I now manage the AmeriCorps program that I was once a member of! It has been so fulfilling watching new AmeriCorps members coming through this program every year, and hearing what had drawn them in and what they will carry with them as they continue on their path after leaving the program. It can be bittersweet, getting to know these great people over the course of their term before saying goodbye, but it’s worth seeing the growing network of like-minded alums who bring environmental stewardship and community engagement to the forefront of what they do!
