Volunteer NH has been hosting the Spirit of NH Awards as an annual celebration of volunteerism since 2003. This event recognizes those who go above and beyond the call to serve throughout the Granite State, shining a spotlight on the often unsung heroes among us in front of an audience of their families, friends, colleagues, and the greater community.

If you are familiar with the Spirit of NH Awards, you won’t be surprised to hear that the 2020 event looked a little different. Public health concerns mean that we were unable to gather together in person, but we took this unfortunate situation as an opportunity to re-imagine meaningful methods of celebrating!

We held a social media campaign leading up to a virtual, live-streamed event on December 9. Please read on for details.

When: Wednesday, December 9, 2020, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM

Where: This was a virtual event, live-streamed from the Bank of NH Stage in Concord, NH. Click here to access the recording.

Who: This event was FREE for everyone to tune into. Attendees included award recipients and their families/friends/colleagues, along with anyone else who wanted to join in on this celebration of service!

What: The Spirit of NH Awards is an annual recognition event where nominated individuals and groups are honored for their exemplary volunteerism, and businesses and nonprofit/public service organizations are celebrated for their promotion of volunteer service initiatives. This time, we also presented the Governor’s Outstanding Volunteer Manager of the Year Award.

Bonus: For the first time ever, the 2020 Spirit of NH Awards incorporated a People’s Choice Award! The winner was Ishwori Bhatta! Participants were able to vote for anyone they deemed deserving of extra recognition. Voting was open until 7 PM on Wednesday, December 9 (halfway through the live-streamed event); one vote per person per day was allowed. The winner of the People’s Choice Award was announced live, toward the end of the live-streamed event.

These badges were used on social media, in email signatures, on websites, and anywhere else participants could think of:
