CONCORD, NH – Volunteer NH announced today that it received grants of $3,161,000 from AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism. The grant will expand where Volunteer NH has been providing statewide services for Granite Staters for over 25 years.
AmeriCorps State and National, a federal-state partnership with a central role for governor appointed State Service Commissions, develops and implements state-specific national service programs. These grants allow organizations to recruit, train, and supervise AmeriCorps members who are providing services in NH to support education, environmental stewardship, and economic opportunity.
Gretchen Stallings, Volunteer NH executive director, said this federal investment strengthens the organization’s ability to meet local needs with local solutions, while also giving the next generation of leaders the opportunity to develop valuable skills through service.
“The impact of AmeriCorps is measured in stronger schools, healthier communities, protected natural spaces, and neighbors helping neighbors,” Stallings said. “We’re proud to support programs and community partners that make a lasting difference for Granite Staters every day.”
With this new funding, Volunteer NH will leverage the skills and experience of over 120 AmeriCorps members in the Granite State. These AmeriCorps members will serve with a variety of organizations — City Year New Hampshire, Lakes Region Conservation Corps, Manchester Excels and SCA-New Hampshire Conservation Corps. Additionally, funding will be given to Archways in the form of a planning grant focused on housing resource supports.

AmeriCorps State and National engages more than 50,000 Americans in intensive service each year. Full-time AmeriCorps members in the AmeriCorps State and National program receive a modest living allowance, health care, and childcare. At the successful completion of each service term, members earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions of higher education and training programs.
